The next installment of the blockbuster Star Wars trilogy will set audiences ablaze with $1 billion dollars in ticket sales, according to data released Wednesday by ticketmaster Theatrix.
The data, which includes both ticket sales and ticket purchases from retailers and online, includes tickets to all of the films, including prequels, prequel, and the first two films in the series.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to open wide on Dec. 15, and will be the biggest film ever to open in theaters.
It is projected to set a new record for the biggest domestic opening ever, surpassing The Hunger Games ($1.7 billion) and The Hobbit ($1 billion).
In total, the films will be worth an estimated $1.3 billion, or nearly $60 billion in ticket revenue.
This is the largest-ever opening of a Star Wars film, beating out the record-breaking opening of the first movie, The Empire Strikes Back, in 2008.
Last year, Star Wars The Last Episode, which opens Dec. 18, was the biggest-grossing Star Wars movie to date.
The film grossed over $600 million in the U.S., including a $200 million opening weekend.
The film is also expected to beat out the previous record holder, The Phantom Menace, which opened in 2005, grossing $1,200 million.
The next big Star Wars sequel, Star Force, which will be released in 2019, will reportedly have an even larger global opening.
The movie, which stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Daisy Ridley’s son Ben, is set for a Nov. 17 release in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Norway’s film and television industry association, the Royal Norwegian Academy of Arts, and cinemas in France, Finland, Portugal, Sweden, Sweden’s second largest theater chain, and other markets around the world.
The next installment in the Star Wars franchise is also projected to be the first film to earn more than $100 million worldwide in box office grosses.
Last week, Disney announced it had topped the $1bn mark domestically for the third consecutive year, after opening in December with $89.9 million.
In total box office, Star Empire: The Final Chapter is projected at $1 million in ticket receipts.
